The Baltimore Orioles have placed third baseman Manny Machado on the 15-day disabled list to start the season.
Machado has been working his way back from a torn medial patellofemoral ligament in his left knee. Aside from a short shutdown period the recovery for Machado has come along good. He should be able to return to action by the end of April.
Once he returns to action, Machado will look to duplicate his .283/.314/.432 line with 14 home runs and 88 runs scored from a season ago.
Another player the Orioles are counting on this season who may not be in the lineup for Opening Day is outfielder Nick Markakis.
Markakis has been dealing with a stiff neck. A decision may not be made until Monday’s game.
