Last season Daryl Smith played on a one-year prove it deal. He did, and now the linebacker has earned a four-year contract from the Baltimore Ravens.

On Friday the Ravens came to terms with the 32-year-old Smith on a new four-year deal worth $16.1 million.

It is a large investment for a for a player over 30 but Smith had become the defensive leader of the Ravens with the exit of Ray Lewis. He led the team with 123 tackles last season. The Ravens will again count on him to be a good option in coverage and occasional pass rusher.
