Kansas City Royals pitcher Luke Hochevar has been shut down for the next two weeks with what the team has labed a sprained ulnar collateral ligament.
The Royals are hoping that Hochevar will avoid Tommy John surgery and return by the end of May.
Hochevar had a chance to crack the Royals rotation this spring but now that spot will go elsewhere.

Last season Hochevar pitched solely out of the bullpen. In 58 games for the Royals he had two saves, nine holds, a 1.92 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP. The Royals have solid depth in their bullpen which is why they were giving him a chance to compete for a rotation spot.
