New York Mets starting pitcher Jon Niese will have an MRI done on his left shoulder.
Niese, 27, was tabbed earlier today as the Mets Opening Day starter but he is dealing with some soreness in his throwing shoulder. While this is not considered to be related to the rotator cuff he partially tore last summer it a concern.

If Niese is unable to start the season it would leave open the door for John Lannan, Jenrry Mejia, or Daisuke Matuzaka to claim two of the five pots in the Mets rotation to start the season.
Niese made 24 starts last season finishing with a 3.71 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He posted a 105/48 K/BB ratio.
