Texas Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis has reported to spring training and is ready to compete for a spot in the rotation. With Derek Holland out there is a spot to be had and the 34-year-old Lewis is hoping to nab it.

Lewis has not pitched since the middle of the 2012 season while dealing with hip and arm issues.

“I did it for the love of the game and wanting to continue to play,” said Lewis, via Fox Sports Southwest. “Like my wife (Jenny) said, ‘€˜I’m not ready for baseball to be over.’ Neither am I.”

If Lewis can get though spring training healthy he stands to claim a spot. Since Lewis returned stateside he has made 80 starts compiling a 32-29 record, 3.93 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. He has a 458/135 K/BB ratio over 506 1/3 innings pitched since the start of the 2010 season.
