Carmelo Anthony is open to the idea of returning to the New York Knicks. Anthony would even be willing to sacrafice some of his pay if it were to help the Knicks land additional players.
“Without a doubt,” Anthony said Friday, via ESPN. “Any opportunity I have to build that up in New York, I’d do it. I told people all the time, always say, ‘If it takes me taking a pay cut, I’ll be the first one on [Knicks owner] Mr. [James] Dolan’s steps saying take my money and let’s build something strong over here.'”
Currently the Knicks are 12 games under .500 and Anthony has stated that he plans to opt out of his current contract but that does not mean the 29-year-old Anthony is ready to leave New York.
“I’ve never been a guy that comes into a situation, when it’s not going well, to leave,” Anthony said. “That’s not my personality.”
The maximum Anthony can sign for is five-years and $129 million. Though Anthony gave multiple reports on Friday saying that money was not an issue going forward and that he had more than enough to retire now.
Anthony is averaging 27.3 ppg, 3.0 asp and 8.6 rpg this season.
