The Kansas City Royals have designated utility player Emilio Bonifacio for assignment.
Bonifacio was designated for assignment so the Royals could add the recently signed Bruce Chen to their 40-man roster. The Royals now will try to work out a trade of Bonifacio before giving him his release.

Bonifacio, 28, hit .243/.295/.331 in 136 games spread across the Royals and Toronto Blue Jays last season. He was 28-of-36 in stolen base attempts.
