NASCAR will announce qualifying changes at 4 pm ET during a teleconference with Robin Pemperton, the vice president of competition.
In October NASCAR met with drivers to discuss an overhaul of qualifying procedures.
The new qualifying rules have not been confirmed yet but there is speculation that there could be road course style qualifying everywhere by Daytona or Talladega. In addition there could also be some sort of “knock out qualifying” like in IndyCar.
NASCAR is still expected to allow 43 cars to race at the Sprint Cup Series level which really makes this a bunch of hoopla about nothing.
