The Tennessee Titans have hired Ken Whisenhunt as their head coach.

The 51-year-old Whisenhunt had been serving as the offensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers. He had also been linked to the head coaching position in Detroit.

While they struggled on Sunday, the Chargers were one of the NFL’s better offenses with Philip Rivers having a bounce back season and running back Ryan Mathews finally contributing.

Whisenhunt will have to find a quarterback in Tennessee as it’s becoming clear that Jake Locker is not the answer. They are a prime candidate to draft one in the first round as they have the No. 11 pick.

From 2007-2012 Whisenhunt was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals where he posted a 45-51 record. His best seasons came with Kurt Warner under center.

Former Titans head coach Mike Munchak is still being considered for positions in Detroit and Cleveland according to Chris Mortensen.
