The Washington Nationals have signed utility player Jamey Carroll to a minor league deal. Carroll will compete for a bench spot on the Nationals.
One of the reasons the Nationals were interested in Carroll was his versatility. Carroll is also a solid lifetime pinch-hitter compiling a .339/.417/.397 in 146 plate appearances.

In 2013 Carroll split time between Minnesota and Kansas City finishing with a .211/.267/.251 line in 73 games. Carroll began his career with Montreal, moving with the team to Washington for the 2005 season.
