The Chicago White Sox sent closer Addison Reed to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday for a minor league prospect.
Reed, 24, saved 40 games for the White Sox last season finishing the season with a 3.79 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. He immediately becomes the closer for the Diamondbacks while the situation is less certain for the White Sox.
In exchange for Reed the White Sox acquired Matt Davidson. The 22-year-old Davidson could start he season as the White Sox third baseman.
Davidson spent most of the 2013 season at Triple-A Reno compiling a .280/.350/.481 line with 17 home runs, 74 RBI in 115 games. He also appeared at the big league level. In 31 games with the Diamondbacks last season Davidson hit .237/.333/.434 with three home runs and 12 RBI.
