The Washington Nationals purchased the contracts of pitcher Sammy Solis and Michael Taylor from High-A Potomac.
By purchasing the contracts of Solis and Taylor the Nationals will avoid losing either player in December’s Rule 5 draft.
Solis, 25, is being considered for a bullpen spot for the Nationals next season after posting a 3.43 ERA in 57 2/3 innings at Potomac. Solis was set back by shoulder surgery that cost him all of 2012 and half of the 2013 season.
Taylor, 22, is a speedy outfielder who stole 51 bases last season for Potomac.
Of the two players, Solis would have been the most valuable for another club to claim.
