Josh Freeman will not start on Sunday for the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a concussion in the third quarter of Monday’s game against the New York Giants.

Freeman was making his first start for the Vikings and struggled to connect with wide receivers.

“Looking back, maybe I was a little too fired up at first,” Freeman said. “There’s definitely a lot of correctable things, things that going into the game I would’ve banked on me being able to complete or get done on the field, but at the same time we weren’t able to do so, so I’m moving forward and just got to find a way to be better prepared.”

Prior to leaving the game, Freeman went 20-of-53 for 190 yards and an interception.

Christian Ponder will start for the Vikings this week against Green Bay. If Ponder plays well he could create more confusion at the quarterback position for a team that has already started three different signal callers and is just 1-5 on the season.
