Nick Folk delivered a 42-yarder in overtime to help the Jets shock the Patriots 30-27 Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.
The field goal came after Folk missed a 56-yarder, but got a second chance after Patriots’ rookie Chris Jones was flagged for pushing his own player into the pile. According to a new rule created this year designed to protect players, that is an illegal play.
The 15-yard penalty gave the Jets another chance and they took advantage, winning the game on a 42-yard kick from Folk.
According to FOX Sports Rules Analyst Mike Pereira, this is the first time the penalty has been called this season.
That is correct call in NE/NYJ game. New rule this year can’t push a teammate into the offensive formation on a field goal or try attempt.
