The Atlanta Falcon’s season may of just got worse, as Monday night their No. 1 receiver Julio Jones injured his foot in the teams 30-28 loss to the New York Jets.

FOX Sports Jay Glazer reported earlier that the Falcons “fear” Julio Jones will miss the rest of the season with the foot injury with Falcons coach Mike Smith saying that it is too soon to call it a season-ending injury.

Smith acknowledged that “the first diagnosis was not encouraging” before confirming that Jones will seek a second opinion Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C.

Jones’ x-rays taken after the game were clean, but he underwent a CT scan Tuesday morning that might have indicated a more serious injury that has raised concerns, prompting the second opinion.

Jones is second in receiving through five weeks with 580 yards, only behind New Orleans Saints WR Jimmy Graham.

“He’s going to be a hard guy to replace, if we have to replace him,” Smith said Tuesday.

Atlanta (1-4) has not had running back Steven Jackson since he suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2, and receiver Roddy White was knocked out of Monday’s game with a hamstring injury. Harry Douglas is listed as Jones’ backup on Atlanta’s depth chart. The Falcons also have Drew Davis and Kevin Cone in the receiving corps but likely will have to add another receiver to the mix.
