The Los Angeles Angels have shut down first baseman Albert Pujols for the rest of the 2013 season.
Pujols, 33, has not appeared in a game since July 26.

This is certainly disappointing news for Pujols who had held out hope of returning at some point from a partial tear of his left plantar fascia. Pujols is not expected to need surgery and should be healthy by the time spring training begins.
Pujols will end the season with a .258/.330/.437 line. He hit 17 home runs and drove in 64 RBI in 99 games. This will mark just the second time in his career that Pujols failed to reach 100 RBI (2011), and just the first time he has failed to reach 30 home runs.
