Juan Pablo Montoya will not drive the No. 42 car of Earnhardt Ganassi Racing after the 2013 season finale.

Montoya, 37, has spent the last seven NASCAR Sprint Cup seasons as a driver under team owner Chip Ganassi. Twice the combination has found victory lane on road courses.

On Tuesday the team confirmed rumors on SiriusXM Radio that they were parting ways with the Colombian driver.

“We did not renew the contract for next year,” part owner Felix Sabates told the channel. “It was a difficult decision. He understands. You have to move on in life sometimes. Its frustrating for everybody when you know youve got good equipment and you cant seem to put everything together still.”

Primary sponsor Target will sponsor the No. 42 car next season and there are several other drivers who will be free agents at seasons end, most notably Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman. Another option is developmental driver Kyle Larson. The No. 1 car will continue to be driven by Jamie McMurray.
