Barry Zito has not pitched very well during the 2013 season and on Friday manager Bruce Bochy announced that he was out of the starting rotation.
Zito, 35, has made 21 starts this season for the Giants and owns a 5.09 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP.
Bochy was non committal when asked how long Zito would be out of the rotation.”For how long, I couldn’t tell you,” said Bochy. “It was time for a change.”
Zito is owed $18 million next season but the Giants can buy out his contract for $7 million. Considering how he has pitched this season one would have to believe they would choose to buy him out.If nothing else the Giants and Zito will always have the 2012 post season.
