The Baltimore Orioles have gotten little from the DH spot this season. With baseball’s July 31 trade deadline just days away the Orioles are scouting players who could help add production to that spot in their lineup.
One name that the Orioles have begun discussions on is former American League MVP Justin Morneau. The team has also reportedly been scouting Mariners players Kendry Morales and Raul Ibanez.
While Morneau has some hardware for being an offensive star it has been years since he has played at that level. The pop has left the now 32-year-old’s bat. If there is any benefit to Morneau it is the $6 owed to him would make him a fairly inexpensive acquisition via the trade market.
Morneau is batting just .267/.327/.401 with eight homers and 53 RBI this season.
