Jeff Driskel was drafted 29th overall by the Boston Red Sox, and signed earlier this month even though he has no desire to play baseball at all.

Driskel’s girlfriend Tarin Moses

Driskel was out hog hunting with his girlfriend, captain of the Gators cheer team Tarin Moses in Arcadia, FL when he heard the news. Moses and Driskel both caught hogs that day.

“Hopefully football works out and I never have to play baseball again,” he said on the opening day of SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala. Tuesday. “But playing for the Red Sox is a good backup plan.”

Driskel said that cell service wasn’t great in Arcadia, but he was following the draft tracker since he had friends in the draft. All of a sudden he saw his name come up: Jeff Driskel, outfielder, University of Florida.

“Jeff came in my office after Boston drafted him and said, ‘Coach, this is the deal, they want to sign me,’” Florida coach Will Muschamp said. “’Haven’t picked up a bat in two years and I have no intention of playing baseball, but they’re willing to cut me a check. By NCAA rules, it’s legal.’

“I said, ‘Jeff, if you were my son, I’d tell you to sign the contract.”
