Micah Owings asked and was granted his release from the Washington Nationals two weeks ago. Owings has since signed a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
While with the Nationals, Owings had been playing at Triple-A Syracuse and was hitting .265/.305/.480 with eight home runs and a 71/10 K/BB ratio through 57 games.
Owings did not pitch while with the Nationals but will attempt to throw again for the Brewers, a team who has experience with hybrid players.
Gord Ash says Micah Owings will both pitch and play OF in the minor leagues. “He’s going to be Brooks Kieschnick reincarnate.”

“He’s going to stay down here because he hasn’t been on a mound in quite a while,” Brewers general manager Gord Ash said. “So it’s going to take him probably 2-3 weeks to get ready. Then once he’s ready he’ll go to Huntsville and we’ll just play it by ear from there.”
“We’ve tried to sign him in the past as a minor-league free agent and never have. What he told me was the Nationals weren’t really keen on him doing both, and he preferred to do both, so we’ll give him that opportunity.”
Owings is a career .283 hitter with nine homers, 35 RBI, a .502 slugging percentage and OPS of .813.
As a pitcher Owing is 32-33 with a 4.86 ERA and 1.400 WHIP.
