The Cleveland Indians will be without Nick Swisher on Tuesday night after his wife, JoAnna, gave birth to a baby girl earlier in the day. Swisher is expected to return to the Indians in the next couple of days.
In order to give the Indians some infield depth Cord Phelps has been promoted from Triple-A. Phelps was hitting .233/.318′.431 over 30 games for the Columbus Clippers.
Swisher has been a key part to the early season success of the Indians as he has compiled a .274/.382/.493 line with six home runs and 16 RBI. Mark Reynolds will move to first base in the absence of Swisher while Jason Giambi will occupy the designated hitter spot against Detroit.
