Mark Teahen asked and was granted his release from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Teahen, 31, has not appeared in the major leagues since 2011 and was hitting just .211 for Triple-A Reno.
The seven year veteran will receive some interest as a free agent and should not have to sit out too long before getting another gig even with a .211/.318/.254 line this season.
A former first round pick of the Oakland A’s, Teahen is nothing more then minor league depth at this point in his career. He finished the 2012 season in the Washington Nationals system finishing with a .260/.328/.360 line.
The Reds attempted to acquire Teahen at the end of spring training but he was unable to pass a physical.
