Michael Waltrip will drive the No. 55 Toyota Camry this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. The car will feature the name and logos of the Alabama Crimson Tide celebrating their back to back National Championships. Waltrip has competed in one race this year, the season opening Daytona 500 in the No. 26 car for Swan Racing.

Last year Waltrip finished 19th in the spring race at Talladega and led 21 laps.

“Every time I go to Talladega I just have a lot of confidence because of all the success I have had there before. I have been able to win there and I came pretty close to winning there last year.”  said Waltrip in a press release.

The Michael Waltrip Racing team plans for the crew to sport No. 55 Alabama jerseys on qualifying day. Waltrip’s racing helmet will be a replica of the University’s football helmets.

There will be no shortage of references to the Crimson Tide on Sunday as quarterback A.J. McCarron will drive the pace car to start the event.
