Phillies cut ties with Aaron Cook

Signed to a minor league deal, Aaron Cook’s chances of making the Philadelphia Phillies out of spring training were slim. On Tuesday the Phillies cut the 34-year-old right handed Cook.

The Phillies could have kept Cook and sent him to the minors but that would have required them paying him a $100,000 retention bonus.

Last season Cook pitched 94 innings for the Boston Red Sox finishing with a 5.65 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP in 18 starts.

Cook’s chances of earning a major league roster spot appear to be slim right now but there should be a healthy supply of teams willing to offer the 11 year veteran a minor league deal.
