The Detroit Lions are not ready to give up running back Jahvid Best. Best missed the entire 2012 season while dealing with concussion symptoms.

Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said that he would consider placing the running back on the physically unable to perform list for the entire 2013 season. Such a move would give Best more like to recover and in a best case scenario allow the Lions to activate him at some point in the season.

“We could put him back on PUP and carry him through the season if we wanted to,” Mayhew said according to MLIVE. “We’ll see what happens.”

The chances of Best returning are not promising but the running back has routinely stated that he wants to continue his NFL career despite a long list of concussions dating back to his days in college at the University of California.

The Lions drafted Best in the first round of the 2010 draft. His salary for 2013 is listed as $876,000 with a cap hit of $1.9 million.
