Team Canada will be without reliever Jesse Crain in the World Baseball Classic. Crain is the latest major leaguer to drop out of the event.
Crain, a native of Toronto, has been diagnosed with a strained right shoulder. The 31-year-old right hander will be monitored over the next few weeks but there is no guarantee that he will be ready for opening day.
Owed roughly $4.5 million this season the White Sox will be cautious with a relief pitcher who has been a key to their bullpens success the last two seasons. Crain finished the 2012 season with a 2.44 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He appeared in 51 games during his second season with the club.
