Daisuke Matsuzaka has signed a minor league deal with the Cleveland Indians. In Cleveland he will be reunited with former Red Sox manager Terry Francona.
The Indians came to terms on a minor league deal with Jason Giambi on Saturday night.
The market for Matsuzaka was weak this winter after he finished last season with a 8.28 ERA in 11 starts.
If Matsuzaka make the Indians Opening Day roster he will have a base salary of $1.5 million. Incentives can push the deal to a total value of $4 million.
There are a couple of rotation spots that could be up for grab in Cleveland but the 32-year-old will have to impress in Spring Training if he is to have any chance at them. It is more likely that Matsuzaka lands a spot in the Indians bullpen. He could also begin the season at Triple-A.
