Ray Lewis to join ESPN

It was the next logical move. Ray Lewis is joining ESPN. The Baltimore Ravens linebacker announced his impending retirement from football on Wednesday. “This is my last ride” Lewis told teammates.

The news of Lewis joining ESPN as part of its football package was first broken by SI.com who said that Lewis is expected to have a significant role on “Monday Night Countdown” while being featured on numerous platforms.

Lewis had hinted at retirement before and during his time away from football this year was able to watch his sons play high school football. One of Lewis’ biggest requirements for joining ESPN’s staff was his schedule. Lewis wanted to make sure he could see his son, Ray Lewis III, play at the University of Miami.

As a football player Lewis gained fame as the leader of the Ravens defense. He was a 12 time Pro Bowler and was selected as the NFL Defensive Player of the Year twice. He was also the MVP of Super Bowl XXXV.
