Josh Brent was allowed to be on the sidelines for Dallas’ overtime win against Pittsburgh. Brent faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter after an accident left teammate Jerry Brown dead.

The Cowboys decision allowing Brent on the sidelines was blasted by commentator Boomer Esiason and others.

“Am I the only one that is wondering what in the world the Cowboys are thinking with Josh Brent on the sideline?” Esiason tweeted during the game.

Team owner Jerry Jones stood by the decision on Sunday,

“Our team and our players wanted him today on the sideline,” Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Jerry’s mother (Stacey Jackson) asked us directly as a group. She said, ‘Support him. Help him. He needs your help. Jerry wants that. I want that.’ His teammates asked him to come and be down there with them.”
