New England is running and throwing the ball on all cylinders. Their offense is far and away the most potent in terms of points. Defensively they have come together allowing 19 or fewer points in each of their last three wins. Tom Brady is on the verge of topping 4,000 yards passing and running back Stevan Ridley has already broken the 1,000 rushing yard mark.
Brady has thrown for 29 touchdowns and just four interceptions this season, including 19 with only one pick during the team’s seven-game winning streak.
If the Patriots are to defeat the 49ers they will want to contain Aldon Smith. Last week they kept J.J. Watt from recording a sack, this week they will want to stop Smith who has an NFL best 19.5 sacks this season. If they do so they could approach the 42 points they laid on the Texans.
The 49ers will counter on offense with Colin Kaepernick and Frank Gore. The 49ers offensive numbers are not too shabby and their defense is one of the best in the NFL. San Francisco is second against the run and pass. The 49ers, though, have given up just three rushing scores — tied for the league lead.
San Francisco will hope to keep it close and take advantage of a rushing attach led by Gore that is second in the NFL.
Will New England steam roll the 49ers? Can the 49ers make a stand against a top tier team?
