Mike Holmgren steps down as Browns president

Mike Holmgren’s time as the president of the Cleveland Browns has ended. After the Browns win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Holmgren said his goodbyes in the teams locker room. Reports circulated weeks ago that Holmgren had his eyes set on the head coaching job in Dallas.

During Holmgren’s time with the Browns there was a never ending carousel at the quarterback position. Holmgren opted to keep Eric Mangini as the teams head coach for a season and then fired him after a 5-11 season.

Joe Banner is taking over Holmgren’s responsibilities under new Browns owner Jimmy Haslam III.

Holmgren has previously coached in Green Bay (1992-1998) and Seattle (1999-2008) including a win in Super Bowl XXXI.

Adding fuel to speculation about Holmgren’s possible arrival in Dallas is that he recently met with Jerry Jones last week as the Browns played against the Cowboys.  Dallas lost on Thanksgiving Day to Washington falling  to 5-6 on the season.
