Ryota Igarashi signs contract with South Bank Hawks

Ryota Igarashi has signed a three-year deal with the Soft Bank Hawks of Japan’s Central League. Igarashi, 33, struggled during his brief time at the major league level.

Igarashi spent two years with the New York Mets before becoming a free agent and signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He never appeared in a major league game for the Pirates and was traded to Toronto following Sprint Training. After being placed on waivers he was claimed by the New York Yankees. Last season he made a total of four appearances at the major league level.

In 83 career games the right handed pitcher had a 6.41 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP.
