Michael Vick may be done for season? Reid to use Foles in attempt to save job?

Michael Vick benching rumors swilled for weeks. While Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid could not pull the plug on Vick, for fear of losing his own job, the decision was made for him Sunday. Vick was knocked out of the Eagles game against the Dallas Cowboys after suffering a concussion.

Prior to the concussion Vick had been a turn over machine for the Eagles who have now lost five consecutive games. Reid had resisted the temptation to turn to rookie Nick Foles because owner Jeff Lurie said that the Eagles were playoffs-or-bust.

The bust has happened.

Reports are now surfacing that Reid will approach Lurie this week and inform him of the change in direction at quarterback. Whether Vick is out for the season or simply being rested is unsure.

Reid will attempt to use the implementation of Foles into the offense and his development to hopefully state a case as to why he should keep his job in Philadelphia.

“I’m 99 percent sure that’s exactly what you’re going to see happen,” a source said Monday morning. “Andy is going to go to [owner] Jeff [Lurie] and [general manager] Howie [Roseman] and say, ‘Let’s go with Foles and make the transition to the next era.’ ”

Foles came into Sunday’s game against Dallas after Vick’s concussion. The rookie seeing his first game action was 22-for-32 for 219 yards and a touchdown. He also threw an interception and committed a costly fumble.

The 23-year-old Foles was drafted in the third round of April’s Draft out of Arizona.
