Report: DeMarco Murray unlikely to play in Week 9

The Dallas Cowboys will likely be without running back DeMarco Murray when they play the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9. Murray has not practiced since spraining his foot in Week 6.

ESPN Dallas reports that Murray did not practice on Wednesday. This comes a day after Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said that the running backs status was uncertain.

“It seems like he’s moving around a little bit better,” Garrett said. “Again, that’s an injury you have to be patient with. We don’t want to rush him back then take any backward steps. We’ll see how he is day-by-day this week.”

Felix Jones will start for the Cowboys again should Murray not play. Jones managed just 19 yards on 13 attempts with a short touchdown. He also fumbled the ball late in the second half which led to a Giants field goal.

Also not appearing at practice were Dez Bryant and Dan Connor. The Cowboys said yesterday that they were not worried about Bryant’s hip. He is expected to play Sunday. The team is being cautious with Connor as he is dealing with what he hopes is just a stinger. With the loss of Sean Lee the Cowboys are weak at the linebacker position.
