Astros could pursue Lance Berkman

The Houston Astros are moving to the American League next season. With the move the Astros will need to find someone to occupy the designated hitter role. One person who may be able to provide a boost the the Astros in that department is Lance Berkman.

Berkman is unsure if he will play in 2013 after appearing in just 32 games for the St. Louis Cardinals this season. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak recently expressed doubts that Berkman would be back in St. Louis next season.

While the Astros could use Berkman and the fan base would unquestionably welcome him back it remains to be seen if he plays next season. Even if Berkman does intend to play it is unknown if he would want to join a team who is not expected to compete

There is likely still some life in the bat of Berkman. In 2011 he hit 31 home runs to go along with a .301/.412/.547 batting line..

Berkman played for the Astros from 1999 though 2010.
