Red Sox and Ortiz working on two-year deal

The Boston Red Sox and David Ortiz are close to a new contract. Ortiz has been a mainstay of the Red Sox since 2003 and the new deal is for two years according to Gordon Edes.

Last season Ortiz appeared in 90 games and batted .318/.415/.611 with 23 home runs and 60 RBI.

The Red Sox recently completed a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays to acquire manager John Farrell. Locking up Ortiz is next on the Red Sox list of things to do. According to Edes a new deal for Ortiz could be completed as early as Friday.

Ortiz is currently working his way back from injury to his Achilles tendon.
