Giants are headed to World Series, shut out Cardinals in Game 7

The Giants are headed to the World Series after winning a record six straight elimination games.

Matt Cain had taken the role as the ace of the Giants staff so it was fitting that the team had him on the mound in a decisive Game 7 at AT&T park.

Not only was Cain helping the Giants cause on the mound but he also contributed with his bat in the second inning. Cain singled in Gregor Blanco to give the Giants a 2-0 lead. This came an inning after Angel Pagan scored on a ground out by Pablo Sandoval.

The Giants then exploded for five runs off of Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead. The Giants 8th run came by Blanco scoring again in the bottom of the seventh.

In the bottom of the eighth, Brandon Belt hit a 98 MPH fastball over the right field wall, adding yet another run to the Giants score.

It started pouring in the ninth inning – but Giant fans didn’t seem to be phased as their team was only 3 outs from going to the World Series.

Sergio Romo came in to face Matt Holliday to get the final out. The Giants shut out the Cardinals to take Game 7 and win 9-0.

The last time the Giants went to the World Series was 2010 when they defeated the Texas Rangers.

It can be argued that the turning point in the series came in Game 5 when Barry Zito went 7.2 innings in Busch Stadium to force the series back to San Francisco.

On Wednesday night, San Francisco will host the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the World Series thanks to the National League winning the All-Star game.

I guess those Cardinal fans that were singing that they were going to the World Series should create a new song, maybe… Cardinals are going going going…home?
