Reunion likely for Redskins and Cooley

The Washington Redskins lost tight end Fred Davis in Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants. Davis was the Redskins leader in receptions before suffering a torn left Achilles’ tendon.

According to CBS’ Jason La Canfora the Redskins are already looking for options at the position. Chris Cooley and the Redskins have talked and will likely finalize a deal according to La Confora.

Cooley had an injury riddled 2011 season but has experience in head coach Mike Shanahan’s offense. He was released by the team in late August.

Two days ago Cooley placed his Leesburg, VA mansion on the market. Perhaps that listing will need to be pulled for a few weeks. Cooley and second wife Christy Oglevee announced in September that they divorcing.

“He helped me get comfortable with this team [and] this offense,” Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III wrote on Twitter following the release of Cooley in August.

Cooley was a fan favorite during his time with the Redskins. He totaled 428 catches for 4703 yards and 33 touchdowns during his eight year tenure with the team.
