New York Jets Coach Rex Ryan is not ruling Tim Tebow out as running back when they match-up against the New England Patriots this weekend and is actually leaning towards using him in that role.

“That’s a possibility,” Ryan said. “The thing about Tim, with him being a football player like we’ve always talked about … by playing quarterback, he knows all the positions. And so can you plug him in at running back? Plug him in at tight end? Whatever … I think the answer is yes.”

ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini reported Thursday the Jets didn’t go out and sign another RB because of Tebow’s ability to contribute out of the backfield, according to sources. Cimini said that it is a “sure sign” Tebow will be heavily involved.

Jet’s RB Joe McKnight didn’t practice this week, so  it’s likely he won’t be playing, and Bilal Powell has already been ruled out so Ryan having the ability to use Tebow is an advantage. Tebow is multifunctional and Ryan is obsessed with beating Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots, so whatever will help the Jets get a win sounds like a good plan.

The Jets will still give the Patriots a heavy dose of Shonn Greene who torched the Indianapolis Colts for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Jets moved to 3-3 on the season after the 35-9 win.
