Female quarterback elected homecoming queen in Florid

The story of Erin DiMeglio has gained national attention. DiMeglio became the first female quarterback to play in a varsity football game in the state of Florida. On Thursday night she was crowned Homecoming Queen at South Plantation High School.

“I was surprised, because a lot of girls at this school, they know a lot of people,” DiMeglio said according to a CNN video. “A lot of people know me more now cause I play football.”

Her mother watched the game from the sidelines. While Erin did not play in the game her school did earn an 18-0 victory over Hollywood Hills High School.

“It doesn’t get any better than that,” Kathleen DiMeglio said

. “I’m so proud of Erin for her determination and her follow through. She wanted to (play football) and she did.”

Wide receiver Hordly Seide was named Homecoming King. He considered it an honor. “Erin, she’s not just my teammate, she’s like my friend.”

DiMeglio originally joined the football team in hopes of showing the University of Central Florida that she would be a good fit for their basketball program.
