Nate McLouth: Foul ball or home run? Yankees win series 3-1

The New York Yankees came in and closed up shop in tonight’s series finale against the Baltimore Orioles. The teams were tied 2-2 going into tonight’s Game 5 go or go home match up in New York. The winner would advance to the Championship game and face the Detroit Tigers.

C.C Sabathia pitched a complete game, only allowing one run. The Yankees scoring came from Mark Teixeira scoring on a single by Raul Ibanez, Derek Jeter scoring on a double by Ichiro Suzuki and a solo home run by Curtis Granderson.

Alex Rodriguez was not in tonight’s lineup, instead Eric Chavez replaced him at third base.

The Orioles started Jason Hammel, he pitched 5.2 innings giving up 2 of the runs before he was replaced by Troy Patton. Patton gave up the third earned run. He pitched 1.1 innings before he was replaced by Pedro Strop. Brian Matusz came in to pitch the last inning.

In the 6th inning, Nate McLouth hit a fly ball to right field that was pretty close to a home run that the umpires called foul. It was reviewed and stood as called, though it was reported later that Yankee fans over in the section said that the ball nicked the foul pole…

The Orioles tried to make a recovery during the top of the 8th when they loaded the bases. They weren’t able to capitalize with Sabathia’s stellar pitching and were only able to get one earned run out of the inning.

The Yankees will face off against the Tigers in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday.
