Update: Ali was involved in a incident during Nationwide Series practice. He then conducted an interview which was a little strange. You can view it all here.

When the NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to Kansas a new name will be competing on the behalf of Rick Ware Racing. Nur Ali, 37, will make his Nationwide debut at Kansas Speedway. Ali will also run races at Texas and Phoenix.

Ali has run six ARCA Series races with a best finish of 21st. He also spent eight seasons competing in the Star Mazda Series, winning two championships.

As Three60c.com wrote the following two years ago:

Born in Karachi, Nur Ali grew up watching Formula 1 and aspired to become a professional race car driver. After moving to Fort Worth with his family in the early 80s, it wasn’t long before he discovered stock car racing and developed his lifelong passion to become a NASCAR competitor.

“NASCAR is where I want to be,” said Nur. “I have the skill, passion and determination to be competitive and with the support of my fans from around the world I am sure to walk the extra mile.”

Ali is the first and only race car driver of Pakistani descent. Sponsors will be announced at a later date.
