Tonight in Austin the city will be a little less cheery, as the number 11 ranked Texas Longhorns lost to number 8 West Virginia Mountaineers.
Texas RB Joe Bergeron had a good game scoring four touchdowns, all on short runs. The team showed their aggressive defense all night.
The game was still close with Texas in field goal range mid-way though the fourth. It was then that a bad snap cost the Longhorns a chance at a touchdown. Moments later they would miss a crucial field goal attempt.
The Mountaineers marched down the field with a heavy dosage of Andrew Buie who had over 200 yards rushing, Heisman hopeful QB Geno Smith threw a 6-yard pass to Stedman Bailey with 10.50 left to play. This put the Mountaineers up by a critical 10 points.
The win wasn’t sealed until West Virginia fielded an onside kick attempt with 14 seconds remaining after Texas had scored a touchdown.
Geno Smith threw four touchdowns and completed 25-of-35 passes for 268 yards.
Final score: West Virginia 48, Texas 45
