Re-signing Kyle Busch now becomes focus of JGR

Kyle Busch missed the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase this season but that is not stopping Joe Gibbs Racing from trying to lock up the 27 year old driver. Busch has been a member of JGR dating back to

Busch has been approached by Gibbs multiple times this season as the organization hopes to re-sign a driver who has made there of the last five Sprint Cup Chases. Since he joined JGR Busch has won 20 Sprint Cup and 40 Nationwide races,

“They typically do (contracts before the expiration date),” Busch said. “They’ve brought it up to my attention. I just kind of put it off to, ‘Let’s get through, let’s see what happens in the Chase.’

Busch said he has been re-approached since missing the Chase but is focused on getting to the end of the year. “There’s no sense in causing a distraction.”

That does not mean that Busch is unhappy at JGR. When asked if he was happy about JGR he responded “I would say so.”

Matt Kenseth will join JGR and take over the seat of the No. 20 car next season. In addition to driving the No. 18 Toyota Camry at JGR, Busch is also running a full time Nationwide team where he has shared seat time with his brother Kurt.
