Richard Childress Racing is appealing the penalties NASCAR levied against Paul Menard’s race team this week. Crew chief Slugger Labbe is at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday working on the #27 Chevy. All sanctions are on hold during the appeal process.
Paul Menard, driver of the No.27 Menards Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing (RCR) is being docked 25 points for irregularities with the frame rails on his car from Michigan International Speedway.
After the race, Menard’s car was one of six that was taken for additional inspection to NASCAR Research and Development in North Carolina. NASCAR said the frame rails had been intentionally modified in an effort to deceive Inspectors.
Slugger Labbe, Menard’s crew chief was suspend until October 3 and fined $100,000 for the infraction.
This is not the first time that Richard Childress Racing has been docked points and fined this season for infractions. Nationwide Series drivers Elliott Sadler and Austin Dillon have both received penalties for unapproved modifications to their cars. Turner Motorsports who gets assistance for RCR has also been penalized in the Nationwide Series.
RCR has the ability to appeal the penalty. One possible replacement as crew chief for Menard is Shane Wilson who was removed from the same role on the No. 29 car of Kevin Harvick.
