Roush Fenway may close #60 Nationwide team

With a lack of sponsorship the #60 car may not hit the track for Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide race. The car driven by Trevor Bayne in the series first three races is seeking sponsorship to continue it’s efforts during the 2012 season.

So far nothing has turned up for team owner Jack Roush who was hoping to attract a financial backer in order to keep the car running. This is especially painful for Roush because last season he ran four cars at the Sprint Cup level and three at the Nationwide level and now he may be down to a total of four cars by this weekend.

When Roush could not find sponsorship for David Ragan in the #6 car he was forced to close the team down. The #17 of Matt Kenseth still lacks sponsorship for some races but Roush says he will run that car out of his pocket if need be. The #16 Nationwide team closed it’s doors at the end of last season and Carl Edwards gave up his seat in the #60 in part so Trevor Bayne will have a chance to race.

Roush Fenway is not the only team in the NASCAR garage dealing with sponsorship concerns however their size and the amount of cuts they have made is alarming. To have closed three races teams between the two series and still lack sponsorship for a driver in Kenseth, who won the Daytona 500 this year, speaks loudly about their inability to find sponsorship.

The team had remained hopeful that Bayne would run the Nationwide schedule but admitted they were in a tough financial situation.

Bayne is running a part time schedule at the Sprint Cup level with the Wood Brothers driving the #21 car.
