Mark Martin gets points, guaranteed Daytona 500 spot

Michael Waltrip Racing has made a deal with Frank Stoddard’s FAS Lane team which will guarantee that all three MWR cars make the Daytona 500 later this month. Prior to the deal in which the team obtained the owner points of the #32 car, it was not guaranteed that Mark Martin would be racing in the 54th running of the Daytona 500.

Martin has run in the Daytona 500 each year since 1988 with his closest finish being a second place run to Kevin Harvick in 2007.

It was also announced recently that team owner Michael Waltrip will drive the #40 car in a one race deal with will hopefully keep his streak of Daytona starts intact. He has run more races at Daytona then any other driver. Last season Waltrip won the Camping World Truck Series race in Daytona.

After Daytona it is believed that Roush Fenway Racing will surrender the points of the #6 car, which will be driven by Ricky Stenhouse, to Stoddard which should lock his car into the field for at-least the first five races. Terry Labonte will drive the #32 car at Daytona and his past champions provisional should be enough to ensure that the team starts the race.

Martin is currently scheduled to drive 25 races in the #55 car for MWR.
