Johanna Long gets Nationwide Series ride from ML Motorsports

The Warsaw, Indiana, based ML Motorsports car will boast Johanna Long as their driver during the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide season. The 19 year old driver competed in select NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races last season and won the snowball derby last season.

The deal signed by Long is for two years and will come come with sponsorship from Biomet.

“I’m really excited about it,” said Long, who visited the Warsaw, Ind.-based shop last week to have her seat fitted in the car. “We’ve been looking forward to an opportunity like this. We’re just glad that it all came together.”

Long’s best finish in the Camping World Truck series was an 11th place finish at Texas.

With former Indy car star Danica Patrick also running the Nationwide series full time in 2012 there will naturally be comparisons made between the two. However Long says she is focused on her own career and can cast those aside.

Last season David Stremme drove the #70 car in 13 races. He notched their lone top-10 of the year with a 9th place run at Richmond. Stremme plans to compete in 34 Sprint Cup races for Inception Motorsports in 2012. Last season the team acted primarily as a start and park organization but did make select full runs.

ML Motorsports is owned by Mary Louise Miller and has been around for 13 season and has competed in the Nationwide Series since 2006.
