Kenseth close to Best Buy sponsorship?

Reports are floating around the internet that Matt Kenseth may be sponsored by electronic retailer Best Buy for the 2012 season. Roush Fenway Racing has been seeking sponsorship for Kenseth since Crown Royal announced that they were pulling out of the sport. Last season Kenseth won three races and finished fourth in the driver standings at the Sprint Cup level.

This could also effect the future of AJ Allmendinger who drove the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford last season with Best Buy being the primary sponsor for 24 events. Allmendinger finished a career best 15th in the final driver standings on the back of a top-5 and 10 top-10 finishes. It has also been reported that RPM had shopped the idea of replacing Allmendinger with Kurt Busch in order to keep Best Buy on the car.

While Roush Fenway Racing said they would run the #17 with or without sponsorship it’s unclear what Richard Petty Motorsports may do without a sponsor on the #43.
